After major to the Grand National wicklow Brave, among the hottest and versatile horses of racing, has died after a drop.
The 10-year-old, ridden by Paul Townend for Irish coach Willie Mullins, arrived down at the final trip in Far Hills.
He suffered a fractured right shoulder and had been euthanised in the place, said New Jersey State veterinarian Dr Stacey Romano.
Wicklow Brave won 17 races across the jumps and on the flat.
Townend had described the horse, who also won the 2015 County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and the 2017 Punchestown Champion Hurdle, asthe horse of a life for proprietor Nick Peacock.
