The MLB bets we would make in 2019

Diamondbacks over 75.5 wins

They took some serious hits to a year’s 82-win team, but they should get plausible starts from all five areas of their spinning. It is hard to be that bad with an above-average rotation: FanGraphs’ projections have them at 79 wins, and Baseball Prospectus’ forecast is for 81, assuming there is not more midseason tearing to come. — Sam Miller
Astros to win the American League West (-800)
The Astros won their division each of the past two years, and they are essentially guaranteed to do this again. The Mariners and the Rangers are rebuilding, the A’s can’t possibly repeat what they did last year and the Angels do not possess nearly as much gift. The Astros are crazy good. — Alden Gonzalez
Six months have passed and I am still not certain how the A’s won 97 games. They will be good again, but not that good. And certainly not as good as Houston. — Eddie Matz
Brewers over 86.5 wins
Think the 2016 Cubs or that the 2015 Royals. Milwaukee has unfinished business, like those teams had the previous seasons. And this is not a World Series prediction — just the Brewers won’t drop over nine games away from their 96-win complete of last year. — Jesse Rogers
Reds beneath 78.5 wins
The Reds will have the ability to hit, but I am not sure they’ve some chance at slowing down their opponents, which is a major issue at a wealthy National League Central. I believe that they will struggle in that division in a big way this season, and if they’re even close to replicating a league-worst 10-29 markers in one-run games, this under is a lock. — Kyle Soppe
