Mason Bennett and tom Lawrence have been fined six weeks wages by Derby and awarded 80 hour community service orders.
The sanctions are for breaking up a club curfew and bringing the team – after the pair were included in that which Derby described as analcohol-related incident a week.
23, 25, and ahead Bennett, midfielder Lawrence, were charged with drink-driving after a crash at the Allestree area of Derby.
A Derby announcement read:Derby County Football Club has completed the disciplinary hearing regarding Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett in regard to the participation in the events of last Tuesday night, which resulted in both of them being detained and scheduled to appear at court on October 15th.
Regardless of the results of that process, the club will not tolerate any one of its players or staff acting in a way which places themselves, their colleagues, and members of the public in danger of injury or worse, or which brings the club into disrepute.
Both the Lawrence and Bennett are consequently being trashed the equivalent of six months salary – the highest statutory limitation – and will serve an additional 80 hours of community and rehabilitation, which will incorporate a drink aware course.
The team will be making no further comment regards this issue.
Bennett said:At the night of Tuesday 24th SeptemberI made tremendous mistakes after consuming alcohol.
What I did was wrong.
Being a footballer, along with someone who youthful lovers look up to, I know the case I set is essential. I am humiliated.
At 23 I am old enough, and that I was brought up, to know much better.
I know that such activities have severe consequences. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept the punishment which the club has already issued.
I have to, and will, learn from such events and will try to become a much better person.
There is no explanation for what I have done. Im sorry to my family, my friends, the clubDerby fans and into the wider football community, I let you down
