Billesdon Brook bags Sun Chariot prize

Not Billesdon Brook caused a bit of a Newmarket upset in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes of Saturday with victory.

The Richard Hannon-trained daughter of Champs Elysees stunned many with a 66/1 victory in last seasons 1000 Guineas in the Headquarters, after which she failed to win in her following five appearances of racing.
However, the signs of a return to her best were there for everyone to see after wins at Chelmsford and Goodwood this summer and, expertly guided by Sean Levey, she swooped late at the closing stages to enroll her second Group One victory – this time at 16/1.
Falmouth Stakes winner Veracious (10/1) drifted markedly in the betting beforehand but seemed to have made a race-winning movement when sent to the front by champion jockey-elect Oisin Murphy that a furlong and a half from the finish, but she couldnt cope with the strong-staying winner and had to pay for a length and a half second.
Third went into recent Matron Stakes heroine Iridessa (4/1), whilst front-runner Laurens could not assert the fairytale finish to her career and weakened right out of the reckoning late on.
