Jesse Lingard: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer allays mounting injury fears

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is optimistic the injury Jesse Lingard lasted with AZ Alkmaar in Manchester United’s goalless draw isn’t as serious as initially feared.
Lingard, omitted from Gareth Southgate group, hobbled off the pitch leaving United to finish the stalemate at the home of ADO Den Haag – the temporary dwelling of AZ – with 10 guys.
Together with United’s attacking options threadbare, Solskjaer can afford the loss of the following ahead of harm before a streak of six away games in seven – beginning with Sunday’s trip to Newcastle, live on Sky Sports.
But, talking after the draw against AZ, the United boss suggested the withdrawal of Lingard was precautionary.
“Jesse tweaked his hand, he did not believe he could risk it,” Solskjaer explained. “Hopefully it’s not too bad.”
After the alarming away kind of United took a turn solskjaer delivered his reassuring message.
United failed to register a shot as their winless run on the road.
But an optimistic Solskjaer insisted he was satisfied with United’s screen, adding:”It’s a fantastic point away from home from a challenging opponent on a challenging surface.
“We got to grips with all the astroturf before the second half, at the first half it took time to get control of the ball and the match.
“But I am happy with the boys. Brandon [ Williams' debut ], fantastic. You can’t find any nerves, he is so brave, a great defender and brave moving and when shooting the ball.
“There are lots of games we could and should have won, so I do not think it [the 10-game winless streak] is an problem.
“Now we have a fantastic point away from home, if you receive a point from the team and win your home games you will go through.”
Solskjaer was impressed with the officiating at Holland, asserting his side had been denied a blatant penalty when Marcus Rashford was brought down in the region by Alkmaar defender Stijn Wuytens.
“It ought to have been a win,” that the Norwegian added. “I’m fed up speaking about penalties we should have had, Arsenal on Monday and now.
“You cannot get that decision wrong in football. The linesman appears straight in the tackle on Marcus and the guardian wiped his foot .
“it is a lousy choice, unfortunately we didn’t get it, however there is not any point me whining. There’ll come a point when these decisions go our way, that’s my consistently positive view.”
