British number one Johanna Konta says she’s”a lot to smile about” after her newest Grand Slam bid ended in a US Open quarter-final defeat.
Konta produced the last eight but dropped 6-4.
Earlier this season the world number 16 reached the French Open semi-finals as well as the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
“It’s wonderful to feel that I’ve still got room to only get better in the sport,” Konta, 28, explained.
According to her Grand Slam outcome, she added:”It’s the best I’ve done up to now in my career so there’s a lot to be proud of that time.
“It is only a part of the sport – just one man ends up not losing, everyone else does shed at some point.”
Konta dropped towards the end of last year from this world’s top 50 and again at the end of April after a disappointing start to the year.
However, a nice season culminated at a jolt near the French Open last four – in odds – and she backed that up with runs deep runs in the US Open and Wimbledon.
She could not replicate her last-16 win over Czech third seed Karolina Pliskova against Ukrainian planet number five Svitolina, who outclassed her Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday.
“Obviously, I needed to go 1 step further and maintain the semi-finals along with the final, and lifting the trophy,” Konta said.
“I believe I definitely need to appear at the good things I did, the very excellent games I played and the difficult opponents I overcome and take great things from the tough opponent who I dropped to.
“The season is not finished, I am pleased with the way I believe I’m getting better during the season.
“I still feel like I am evolving and developing and only advancing.”
Her performance in Flushing Meadows will be very likely to lift her to 11th place from the world rankings when they’re published next Monday and if she can continue her good shape during the upcoming few months she could bet a claim to get a debut place in the WTA Finals – the season-ending tournament for the season’s best eight players in Shenzhen, China.
“I would like for that to be a part of my program,” Konta said. “But there are so many moving factors for this. So many things depend on how other folks do.”
