Eddie Howe says VAR is yet to prove itself in the wake of Mike Riley’s admission that there were four wrong decisions.
Two of those four events mentioned by referees’ main Riley included Bournemouth. Youri Tielemans’ apparent stamp on Callum Wilson was just only one, and the other was that the decision to not award Manchester City a punishment when Jefferson Lerma stood the foot of David Silva in the Bournemouth box.
Howe is glad that there’s transparency around the decisions, but says he is”still on the fence” about VAR as a concept.
“It is interesting that they’ve come out and stated that there has been errors made, that I think will be a positive thing,” Howe said at Friday’s press conference.
“I’ve got no problem with them admitting coming out, I think that’s a positive thing to the game and also for VAR.
“I always said at the start of the season there’s likely to be mistakes, there is definitely going to be more twists and turns in the use of it and how the grading system works and what they alter.
“The Tielemans tackle – for me should have been a red card. I’ll probably keep quiet on the other person!”
Asked when he had been a lover of VAR’s impact, Howe said:”I’m still on the fence. It ought to demonstrate itself that it’s good for the game.”
Bournemouth confront Everton live on Super Sunday, a match which could observe the return of midfielder Lewis Cook. The 22-year-old was out of action since December but comprised in a 6-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers .
Howe stated he’ll create a”overdue call” on whether Cook will perform against the Toffees, however that his return to fitness – and Lloyd Kelly and Simon Francis being back in practice – has had a favorable influence on the group.
“This weekend, so I’m not convinced, it could come a bit too early for me personally,” said Howe on Cook. “He is trained today for a sustained time period and seemed really good.
“He has had a game now that’s a really major step forward for him so he’s getting closer and closer. On whether he’s involved in this match or not I will have to make a late call.
“He is a major player . Another player that really well known a good player .
“Naturally once you get a large player like that back to the group it gives everybody an excess spring in their step. The strength of this group is actually important.
“Everyone builds confidence levels whenever they see, not just Lewis however Simon Francis and Lloyd Kelly rear . The team looks much healthier so it has been a really good week in that regard.”
