John Oxx admits he’d have chosen longer to have prepared Skitter Scatter because of her crack in the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown following week.
A Group One-winning juvenile for Patrick Prendergast, the filly transferred to John Oxx when her coach chose to relinquish his licence and join forces.
She headed into Newmarket for the 1000 Guineas as a top elaborate, but picked up an accident and just made her comeback weekly.
The difference between races would be a slight concern while Oxx was pleased with her run to finish second.
“She is in good form and she came from her recent race in great shape,” said Oxx.
“She’s a pretty simple filly to train and also has a nice attitude to her work. She does enough and she’s generous, although she is very willing, not an over-exuberant worker.
“We have been pleased with her because her race. We’re thrilled to receive her .
“She ran a fantastic race, so she didn’t win, which I would have enjoyed her to do, however, it was ideal really since she had a wonderful race. She awakened in the last furlong and got tired.
“We were lucky to have the ability to receive her there and get to run her on good earth. It might happen to be what would we have done and a bog – would we have conducted her or not.
“We got away with this. Unfortunately it’s only 16 days I would have favored three months, but it is what it is and we hope that she can advance enough in that 16 times to run another race that is good.
“It has not been perfect, but we need to be happy that she has been in good shape all along and has kept going the right way.”
