Besides the performance this year, of Nolan Arenado was a bust to the Colorado Rockies and it’s not getting much better as the season progresses.
Their way came by making the month in any season when they moved 6-19 in July and followed by tying a franchise record for losses in the month of August when the team dropped 19 of 28 games the ignominious stretch.
As the Rockies enter this three-game set against the top team from the National Leaguethey will hope that beginner rookie Peter Lambert (2-5, 6.63 ERA, 1.63 WHIP) is able to correct the boat following a stretch that’s seen Colorado lose 10 of their last 11 contests.
The 22-year-old newcomer has neglected to escape the inning in his previous two appearances, becoming struck. In June, Lambert faced the Dodgers in starts, surrendering a combined eight runs on 16 hits in nine-plus innings of work, where LA won 5-4 and 12-8.
The Dodgers have hit a few bumps in the road recently but nothing that will even remotely derail their chances of winning the division along with most likely catching the No. 1 seed at the National League when the playoffs roll around.
Los Angeles has lost five of the eight and avoided getting swept from the Diamondbacks in the desert when Joc Pederson went yard in the top of the 11th inning to give his team a victory on Sunday.
Walker Buehler (11-3, 3.03 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) will choose the bulge today for the Dodgers and he has more than lived up to his illustrious bill later being chosen 24th overall in the 2015 draft.
In his second season at the big-league level, Buehler threw the complete game of his career back on June 21st against the team he’ll face and was appointed an All-Star. In that contest, Buehler permitted two runs and struck out 16 in a 4-2 LA victory.
But less than a week after the ‘2″ right-hander was tagged for seven runs on 13 hits in five-plus innings by precisely the exact same group he stymied only six days earlier. The Rockies would go on to win that game 12-8 and avenge their loss to the Vanderbilt product.
The MLB chances are prohibitive on the Dodgers in this Labor Day evening contest, and we can’t be amazed. Big Blue has a complete stud on the mountain although the Rockies are desperately hoping a light will turn and Peter Lambert will at least pitch his way through five innings without harm.
I really don’t find that happening despite LA’s current hiccups but cannot lay north of -300, which is exactly what the best online sportsbooks are currently asking on the house favorite that is chalky.
