As a Result of a rash of Accidents, the Philadelphia Eagles look like the NFL Choice for Sunday’s Match against the visiting Detroit Lions.
The Detroit Lions (1-0-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) are undefeated through the first two matches of the regular season. That is pretty great, right? Well, the Lions looked like a mediocre team coming into 2019, and according to the DVOA stats at Football Outsidersthey are what we believed that they wereNo. 14 overall in efficacy.
That’s only four spots behind the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS), mind you. And with all the injuries Philadelphia have suffered, we’re actually going to put the Lions in our NFL picks for Sunday’s matchup (1:00 p.m. ET, FOX). Too bad they are already down from +8 in the open to +6.5 at the time, though. Timing is everything.
This could have been among the lines around the Week 3 NFL odds board if it had not been for all those harms. Here’s what the projections need to mention:
FiveThirtyEight: Philadelphia –6
Jeff Sagarin: Detroit –0.28, 44.88 complete
Wait, what? Jeff Sagarin’s numbers at The USA Today seem to be all over the map for this competition — his overall Rating’re being used by us here, but for the most part, his projections such as the Lions to win. That does talk to the problems Philadelphia has experienced on protection, problems we saw in last week’s 24-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons (+1 at home).
Things will likely get worse. DT Timmy Jernigan broke his foot in Atlanta, 1 week after DT Malik Jackson endured a injury and was lost for the year. And the crime is in issue: WR DeSean Jackson is two weeks with a stomach strain, while WR Alshon Jeffery and TE Dallas Goedert are iffy at best for Sunday with calf strains.
