WBSS final: Lawrence Okolie ready to step up to European level

Lawrence Okolie has disclosed he jumped at the opportunity to challenge Yves Ngabu for the cruiserweight title.
Okolie will take on Ngabu on the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor undercard in The O2 on October 26, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The Hackney fighter, that picked up the British and Commonwealth titles since joining the pro ranks in 2017 and has won 13 of his battles, did not hesitate when offered the chance.
“I just think that if you are young and competent [to combat ] then you should do,” said Okolie during Monday’s press conference.
“This will be the third winner I’ve boxed. I have defeated on the Commonwealth champion, I have defeated on the winner and I’m excited about beating on the European champion.
“He has got a wonderful team. I’ve heard a great deal of interviews I like the way he speaks.
“I am just looking forward to putting myself in training camp and going to work.
“It is going to become very, very great, really exciting. He has got a sort of style that is opposite to mine.
“He’s a come-forward fighter but he knows how to ship. He has great power punching and several other things like that, so there is going to be a whole great deal of things I’m going to have to deal with on the night, however I can cope with all these professionally.”
Ngabu (20-0, KOs 14) will probably soon be battling for the very first time outside his native Belgium but the 30-year-old is convinced of defending his title for the third time.
“He [Okolie] is a fantastic fighter. He is tall, he is powerful and everything until now he did perfect, but I believe I will beat him and I believe I’m more powerful than him and we’ll see on October 26,” said Ngabu.
