WBSS final: Lawrence Okolie ready to step up to European level

Lawrence Okolie has revealed he jumped at the opportunity to challenge Yves Ngabu to its cruiserweight title.
Okolie will take on Ngabu on the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor undercard at The O2 on October 26, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Since joining the ranks in 2017 the Hackney fighter, who has won all 13 of his struggles and picked up the British and Commonwealth titles, did not hesitate when offered the opportunity.
“I just feel that when you’re young and able [to battle ] then you should do,” said Okolie during Monday’s press conference.
“This will be the next champion I have boxed. I have defeated on the Commonwealth winner, I have beaten on the champion and I am looking forward to beating the champion.
“He has got a excellent team. I’ve heard a great deal of interviews , I like how he speaks confidently.
“I’m just excited about putting myself in training camp and then going to do the job.
“It’s definitely going to become very, very great, very exciting. He’s got a sort of style that is contrary to mine.
“He is a come-forward fighter but he also knows how to box. He has great power punching and various other things like this, so there is going to be a whole lot of stuff I’m going to have to manage at the night, but I can cope with all of these professionally.”
Ngabu (20-0, KOs 14) will be battling for the very first time outside his native Belgium however, the 30-year-old is convinced of successfully defending his title for the next time.
“He [Okolie] is a good fighter. He is tall, he’s powerful and everything until he did great, but I believe I will beat him and I think I’m stronger than him and we’ll find on October 26,” said Ngabu.
