Lawrence Okolie has disclosed he jumped at the chance to challenge Yves Ngabu to its European cruiserweight title.
Okolie will take on Ngabu on the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor undercard at The O2 on October 26, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
As joining the pro ranks in 2017 the Hackney fighter, who also has won 13 of his fights and picked up both the British and Commonwealth titles, didn’t hesitate when offered the chance.
“I just feel that when you’re young and able [to combat ] then you should do,” explained Okolie through Monday’s press conference.
“This will be the next winner I have boxed. I’ve defeated the Commonwealth champion, I have beaten the winner and I’m looking forward to beating the champion.
“He’s got a great team. I’ve heard a great deal of interviews I enjoy how he talks.
“I’m just excited about putting myself in training camp and going to work.
“It’s definitely going to be very, very great, very exciting. He has got a kind of style that is contrary to mine.
“He is a come-forward fighter but that he knows how to ship. He’s got great power punching and various other things like that, so there is going to be a lot of stuff I’m likely to need to manage at the night, but that I will deal with each one of these comfortably.”
Ngabu (20-0, KOs 14) will probably be battling for the very first time outside his native Belgium however, the 30-year-old is convinced of defending his title for the next time.
“He [Okolie] is a fantastic fighter. He’s tall, he’s powerful and everything until today he did great, but I think I could beat him and I think I’m stronger than him and we’ll see on October 26,” said Ngabu.
