Ducks hire ex-Kings coach Sutter as adviser

The Anaheim Ducks have termed ex-Stanley Cup-winning head coach Darryl Sutter as an adviser to their training staff, executive vice president and general manager Bob Murray declared Tuesday.
Back in June, the Ducks hired Dallas Eakins as their new head coach, succeeding Randy Carlyle, who was fired in February after a dreadful 2-15-4 stretch where Anaheim dropped 12 straight games (0-8-4) from Dec. 18-Jan. 15. Murray served as interim coach for the rest of the season, leading the Ducks into some 14-11-1 record to complete the season.
Sutter, who headed the Los Angeles Kings to Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014, ended with a franchise-best 225 career wins (225-147-53). He had been fired in April 2017 after the Ducks has not served as a coach during the past two seasons, and missed the playoffs for the second time in three decades.
Sutter formerly was the head coach of the Calgary Flames 2002-06, serving as their general director from 2003-10, the San Jose Sharks (1997-2002) and the Chicago Blackhawks (1992-95).
He performed 406 career games with the Blackhawks, amassing 279 points (161 goals, 118 assists) over eight seasons.
