Even the Chicago Cubs odds to win the National League Central are the shortest theyve been . The St. Louis Cardinals are two matches back while the Milwaukee Brewers trail by 2.5. Is there worth with both of the two trailers or are the Cubs that the best bet to win this division?
Odds of 12/08/2019.
Theyve seemed to be the most consistent team this season while the Cubs cant appear to pull in the Central. As they have been 19-12 in their last 31 games, more importantly, theyve picked their game up over the previous month.
The Cubs rank fifth in team ERA and are seventh in OPS, therefore theyre a group. As theyve blown 21 saves — the third-most from the majors, A significant issue for these has become the innings and saves. Bear in mind that they signed Craig Kimbrel and hes been pretty reliable for these, but he is hurt right now.
It seems like the Cardinals cant really get. They have largely been around a .500 group this season hovering above that mark. They came out of the gates at the second half of the season. Then they took two of three from the Chicago Cubs.
However, the Cards immediately gave up it, losing five in a row. It just feels like this team is a few bricks short of a load. The roster wasnt helped by them and that is who they are. Their offense ranks 25th in runs scored and 24th in OPS. It is simply not great enough — in a weak division.
Of the three contenders in this race, the Cards are the worst record against winning teams since theyre only 30-35 (13th in the Majors) whereas the Brewers are 36-29 (fourth) while the Cubs are 33-31 (seventh). Thats not a good sign for St. Louis.
As they mirrored the Cardinals this year, it is hard for me to put on board: been near .500 but hovered about a marker marginally above it. They were 47-44 in the fracture and then began the second half but certainly are still 6-7 since.
Pitching is a battle for this group as theyve blown six saves because the Game. Over the calendar year, their pitching staff has a WHIP of 1.38, that is 17th.
On offense, the Brewers have the best player in this branch in Christian Yelich. Hes batting .335 and has 39 home runs but even with those extraordinary numbers, the Brewers are 17th batting 24th in home runs since the All-Star break. I dont think they have the equilibrium to deliver this house.
The Brewers and Cardinals had to help themselves in the trade deadline and they did not. The Cubs made motions ahead of the deadline and also Nick Castellanos in its purchase with the registering of Kimbrel. They also picked up Derek Holland and Tony Kemp.
Keep in mind that the Cubs have dealt with a ton of accidents but should get healthier. Together with Pedro Strop rear and Kimbrel returning soon, this is the team. Theyre the best option.
Let us keep it civil and have fun.
