Richard Agar has been named as Leeds Rhinos’ new head coach for the 2020 year on a rolling 12-month contract, after spending as manager.
Agar was in charge because Dave Furner was sacked in May, after Leeds missing 10 of their first 14 Super League games.
Leeds has been since guided by the France head trainer to seven wins in their subsequent 14 league games along with the Rhinos are put to finish eighth.
Agar said:”I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with this particular team of players and helping them turn the corner this season.
“That is an outstanding golf club both on and off the area, and it’s our duty over the coming decades to once again challenge for honours over an ongoing period.”
Agar supported to Sky Sports that he held”positive” talks with bar chief executive Gary Hetherington and director of rugby Kevin Sinfield after last Sunday’s triumph at London Broncos, which effectively secured their Super League status.
Following Agar’s appointment, Sinfield said:”We are thrilled to have the ability to affirm Richard as our new Head Coach.
“The manner in which he’s conducted himself this season, during very hard conditions, has shown us that he is the ideal person for the job.
“We’re lucky to have the ability to call upon one of their most experienced trainers in the game and importantly someone who knows our players and understands the potential for the group of young men.”
The 47-year-old started working as the assistant of Furner when James Lowes left the club union in April and took on a temporary basis when the Australian was terminated.
