The BYU Cougars (0-1) traveling to Knoxville in Week 2 for a showdown with the Tennessee Volunteers (0-1). Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM EST on Saturday, September 7th at Neyland Stadium and the game will be televised on ESPN.
This past week tennessee opened as a house favorite. Since the Vols are listed in -3 that line has to proceed at all after ancient gambling. The total for the game is currently sitting at 51 points.
BYU could not find a way to emerge victorious from the”Holy War” from Utah at Week 1 although trailing by only a field goal at halftime. The Utes came out that the second half, scoring three touchdowns to set the game.
BYU QB Zach Wilson could not find any consistency against a Utah shield, becoming picked twice and throwing for only 208 yards — one had been returned for a touchdown.
RB Ty’Son Williams proved BYU on the floor using a bit of a flicker . Matt Bushman gave a solid attempt, catching 6 balls for 62 yards. BYU offense could not sustain any crime and managed to score just 12 points.
BYU did a great job defensively in the first half against Utah, holding the offense. However, they began to provide a little down the stretch, as Utes RB Zach Moss put on a series en route to a 187 yard, one touchdown performance.
Tennessee also dropped to 0-1 on the year last weekend, despite being favored by 26 points dropping a shocker.
The Vols jumped out to an early 14-7 lead in the first quarter because the Panthers rallied to recover the lead prior to closing out the win going, but it was downhill after that.
Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano had a decent match, heading 26/40 for 2 touchdowns throwing to only 1 interception and 311 passing yards.
He had a whole lot of help. Tennessee offense certainly looked aside from 3 turnovers, racking up almost 400 total yards and scoring three touchdowns.
Georgia State managed to pull off such a massive upset in Week 1 due to the Volunteers drama on defense. Tennessee grew up 350 total yards, which while apparently not seeming to be overly significant, still resulted in five Panthers touchdowns.
Tennessee couldn’t prove themselves stopping the run. Georgia State had three different Georgia State rushers to locate the end zone.
I don’t have a ton of confidence in both of these apps. I still think that the Vols loss against Georgia State was an exception and not the rule.
I believe that was not an indictment of the Vols talent and a shocking lack of preparation. Having said that Tennessee is the team, playing time in Neyland Stadium.
