Jake Hastie’s second-half equaliser allowed Rotherham to emerge from behind to claim a 1-1 Sky Bet League One draw from Sunderland.
Together with Marc McNulty locating the net after only 31 minutes sunderland made an ideal start.
The Scotsman was introduced by the fast free-kick of alim Ozturk through the middle, and having scored at Accrington in his side’s weekend win, he left it in four times since he slotted past Daniel Iversen two goals.
The hosts must have been two goals to the good midway through the first half, but while Clark Robertson scythed down Lynden Gooch to concede a penalty, Aiden McGeady’s tame side-footed campaign was saved.
Rotherham may have experienced a spot-kick in their own when Luke O’Nien seemed to handle in the area, and with steadied the boat after their dreadful start, the visitors should really have experienced an equaliser on the stroke of half-time, just for Matt Crooks to venture more than six yards out.
They levelled with 24 minutes , taking advantage of a hesitancy from Ozturk that allowed possession to be won by Freddie Ladapo.
He teed up Hastie in the box, along with the Millers drilled a finish that is pushed .
